Steve Smith has never been one to mince a single word when delivering brutal commentary on a player in the National Football League.
He proved that once again when Smith went onto Friday’s edition of the Pat McAfee show and absolutely crushed Carson Wentz for failing to get the Colts into the postseason.
“The only thing that you guys experienced the last week of the season is what you were going to experience the next week in the playoffs,” Smith said. “Carson Wentz is exactly who I would love my daughter to date but playing football, nope.”
“My point is, you paid the quarterback $45 million, you bet the farm and traded for him, and you’re telling me you can win the game if you minimize him throwing the ball,” Smith said.
“I’m no longer in football, but I’ll use an analogy that all of us understand,” Smith said. “If you buy a stock, and it keeps going down, there is unrealized and realized gain but at some point you’re going to have to let it go to the bottom and tell your wife, ‘Well I blew our money but hey, our financial guy’s a good guy.’
“He can’t pick any stocks! He screwed up our kid’s college fund, but he’s a good person!”

The Indianapolis Colts had one job to do: win one of their final two games of the regular season to clinch a playoff spot. They failed to get that done. The Colts put on an embarrassing performance in their 26-11 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in their season finale and were officially eliminated from making the playoffs when the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens 16-13 in overtime.
The team came a long way from an 0-3 and 1-4 start to become one of the hottest teams in the NFL, a team that had seven players named to the Pro Bowl.
Things were supposed to be even better for the Colts this season after they gave the Philadelphia Eagles a first-round draft pick for quarterback Carson Wentz and pair him with running back Jonathan Taylor and a defense that finished second in the NFL in forced turnovers. It still wasn’t enough.
Wentz was 17-of-29 for 185 yards with two turnovers. He threw for more than 200 yards just twice in the final eight games of the season. Now the front ofice doesn’t even know if he’ll be back in 2022.
