Steve Belichick has given fans a little bit of an update on what his father, Bill, might do to keep himself busy this year after being passed on in the latest NFL head coaching hiring cycle.
Bill Belichick and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft parted ways after the 2023 season, following a historic 24-year run together that culminated in six Super Bowl championships.
In a surprise, the legendary head coach wasn’t hired in the 2024 HC hiring cycle. In fact, the Atlanta Falcons were the only team to interview Belichick (they did so twice), but they wound up hiring ex-Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris for the position.
Speaking with former NFLer Chris Long on the “Green Light” podcast (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk), the younger Belichick indicated that his father may look at doing television stuff this upcoming year:
“I think he’s good. Let the stuff roll off your back and move forward. He doesn’t dwell, unless we lost a game and he needs to get on some guys. Eventually you need to turn the page. Honestly I wasn’t too involved in any of that stuff, he did his thing, I did my thing and that was kind of that. He’s definitely pursuing some other stuff, whether it’s TV or hopefully a regular on the Green Light or whatever it may be.
His hobbies would still be to, let’s say, critique football. So you know he was excited when I came out here because he got to evaluate the scheme last year, evaluate the players last year. I’m sure he’ll come out here at some point to do some stuff. The guy just loves football, so there’s definitely that element.”
Steve also wound up leaving the Patriots to accept the Washington Huskies’ defensive coordinator position. His brother, Brian, decided to remain with New England to continue working as the safeties coach under new Patriots HC Jerod Mayo.

Though he’s known for being a man of few words with the media, Bill did win a Sports Emmy Award for his excellent analysis and on the NFL’s “100th Anniversary All-Time Team” program.
Nobody knows the game better than Belichick, who would easily flourish on television as an analyst if he decided to go that route.
