The Los Angeles Rams have placed rookie quarterback Stetson Bennet on their non-football injury list this week but have refused to offer an explanation.
Bennett, the first quarterback drafted by the Rams during head coach Sean McVay’s seven-year stint in charge, won the job as Matthew Stafford’s backup in preseason. But he will be out for at least four games given this new development.
McVay was unwilling to provide details, telling reporters he preferred to keep the matter private.
“There are certain things that I think are a little bit bigger and more important, and out of respect for the particulars and the specifics, (I) want to be able to keep it in-house,” the HC said, per the Associated Press.
The QB was absent for the team’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks with what they said was a shoulder injury. Brett Rypien will move up from the practice squad to replace him as backup again this week.
“Got a lot of love for Stetson,” Stafford said of the rookie. “Appreciate him as a teammate, and Brett (Rypien) and I will roll with it as we go on.”

McVay has revealed that his move to the NFI list has nothing to do with his shoulder injury, also saying he’s met with the QB recently.
