Stephen A. Smith has confirmed that ESPN is currently in talks with former ‘Undisputed’ star Shannon Sharpe following the latter’s departure from FS1.
Sharpe, who had been sitting opposite Skip Bayless since 2016, left the aforementioned show after the culmination of the 2023 NBA Finals. A recent report from Front Office Sports claimed the NFL Hall of Famer was discussing a deal with The Worldwide Leader in Sports that would see him become a “high-profile contributor” and possibly join Stephen A’s rotating crew of sports debaters on ‘First Take’.
Well, Smith has confirmed the reports himself, taking some time out of his vacation to update fans.
“The rumors are right,” he tweeted on Friday. “I want @ShannonSharpe on First Take.”
“Make no mistake about it, ESPN is talking to him. And make no mistake about it, it’s because I want them to talk to him,” he also said on the latest episode of his show. “Because I want to win. I’ve been winning, but you don’t win standing still. You win by continuing to adapt and evolve.”
Smith added ESPN is confident they will land Sharpe.

Sharpe has also spoken on the matter, claiming earlier this week that it would be “great” if he were to battle Smith on ‘First Take’.
Both Smith and Sharpe made their names debating Bayless on television. Now, it appears they’re set to go at each other for what would be must-see TV.
