Chase Claypool’s unceremonious time with the Chicago Bears is over. A day after they finally moved into the win column on the season, the Chicago Bears moved on from wide receiver Chase Claypool.
Chicago traded the wide receiver and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in return for a 2025 sixth-round pick on Friday.
Many around the league figured the Bears would have to release Claypool, who gave the Bears 18 catches for 191 yards and one touchdown in his 10-game tenure in Chicago.
During this Friday morning’s episode of “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith delivered an ominous warning to Claypool about this opportunity in Miami.
“Chase Claypool, please listen to me. This ain’t about football. Everyone knows you can play. We saw your skills in Pittsburgh before you got traded to Chicago. You are developing a very bad reputation,” Smith said. “… If you don’t turn it around, this could very well be your last stop. Whatever it is going on up here, please get it together so you can shine and show the world what you can do as a football player. If you keep getting moved, the message is going to be indelibly sent, you’re not somebody they want in the locker room.”
The Steelers were happy to rid themselves of him, and the Bears left him at home the last two games. It’s been a sharp fall for Claypool, who drew attention for a lack of effort in Week 1 which was called out by teammates during the game. This past week he was asked if he thought the coaching staff was using him right and he responded, “No.”

Miami clearly believes it can get something out of him for the late-round pick swap, and for his sake, he better show something or he could find himself on the outside of the league.
In 2023, Claypool appeared in three games for the Bears, recording four catches on 14 targets for 51 yards and one touchdown. He was never part of a single win with the team.
