The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly keen on moving up in the NFL Draft so they could acquire a player who was previously rumored to go No. 1 this year.
According to NBC’s Peter King, Pittsburgh have an interest in moving up to ninth from their position at 17, with Jalen Carter thought to be the player in mind.
The Chicago Bears currently own the No. 9 pick for 2023 after trading the No. 1 to the Carolina Panthers. Trading all the way down to 17 might not be something they want to do, but who knows?
King noted the defensive tackle can’t have a better coach than the Steelers HC in a recent Football Morning in America column, suggesting there “could not be a more perfect coach for Carter than Mike Tomlin.”
The veteran reporter also branded the talk over Carter possibly getting drafted by the Steelers as “the best rumor of the week,” pointing out that such a trade would be a great team decision, although Carter’s off-field issues have thrown things awry as it pertains to his draft status.
Carter was previously tipped to go first overall in 2023, as noted above. However, some NFL teams have taken him off their draft boards due to his legal issues. He did not give a good account of himself at Pro Day either, having already missed key parts of the NFL Scouting Combine as he had to turn himself in to the police. So it will be interesting to see where he lands on the back of all the drama.
