James Harrison may have very well opened up a can of works with his comments.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers star alleged that Mike Tomlin handed him “an envelope” after the linebacker received a $75,000 fine from the NFL for a brutal hit on a Browns’ receiver back in 2010.
Pittsburgh president Art Rooney is now trying to play damage control when he denied Harrison’s “envelope” comments in a new statement.
“I am very certain nothing like this ever happened,” Rooney said, via Pro Football Talk. “I have no idea why James would make a comment like this but there is simply no basis for believing anything like this.”
“Listen, everything I love, on my daddy’s grave, I hit that man with about, max, 50 percent of what I had, and I just hit because I wanted him to let loose of the ball. If I had known they were going to fine me $75,000, I would have tried to kill him. Dude, I’m telling you, 75?
“I ain’t going to lie to you. When that happened, right? The G-est thing Mike Tomlin ever did, he handed me an envelope after that. I ain’t going to say what, but he handed me an envelope after that.”

Harrison hit Massaquoi’s helmet directly with his helmet, resulting in a concussion for the receiver.
This news could be very troubling if the NFL so chooses to look into it as they did with the New Orleans Saints in the bounty-gate scandal that resulted in head coach Sean Payton being suspended for a year.
It should also be noted that Harrison and Tomlin haven’t seen eye to eye since 2017.
