It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the Pittsburgh Steelers’ front office decided they had seen enough of Matt Canada and his inept offense.
The last straw for Canada in the Steel City came on Sunday, when his Steelers managed to put up just 10 points in a 13-10 loss to a Cleveland Browns team that was without their starting quarterback, Deshaun Watson.
According to reports, it appears as though the players had seen enough of Canada’s play-calling following the game as well, with a couple of their players calling out the former OC during postgame interviews.
Most notable was quarterback Kenny Pickett’s comments, as he noted Canada’s inability to make the proper adjustments once the team realized that the Browns had ditched their typical man-to-man coverage for a zone scheme.
“The plan was, they play a lot of man-to-man,” Pickett said while speaking to reporters after the game.. “They didn’t play a lot of man-to-man today. They threw a lot of zone looks at us. Different zone looks. We were expecting them to come in and play man. We gotta adjust better.”
Najee Harris was another Steelers player who didn’t seem to agree with the play-calling. When asked why the team didn’t run the ball once on their final drive, he simply stated, ““That’s a good question, next question.”
He also confirmed that “in some situations” the opposing team knows exactly which play the Steelers’ offense is running.

All of this probably explains why the Steelers finally decided to make the change this morning and relieve Canada of his duties.
It also probably had something to do with the fact that the Steelers’ offense ranks 28th in the NFL in both yards per game and point per game.
Despite all of that, they’re still 6-4 on the season and find themselves sitting in the final playoff spot in the AFC.
