Jarron Jones was already on the outside looking in trying to get his NFL career started, but now it appears it is dead in the water after allegedly physically abusing his girlfriend. The practice squad player was charged with aggravated assault, strangulation and simple assault.
The Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman allegedly strangled his girlfriend, hit her and smashed an Xbox console on her face before he ultimately picked her up and threw her outside.
From Post-Gazette:
“The woman told police Mr. Jones had strangled her, hit her in the face, smashed his Xbox console over her face, picked her up and “threw her outside,” according to the complaint. She then told police she blacked out and lost consciousness during the altercation, according to the complaint.
Police at the scene detailed that the woman had sustained abrasions to the right side of her face near her temple, bruising with the onset swelling on her right forearm and a small abrasion on her upper left chest region, according to the complaint. She then signed a victim notification form, but denied a lethality assessment, according to the complaint. Medics transported her to UPMC Presbyterian under stable condition.”
Jones was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
The Steelers initially signed Jones earlier this year after he spent an abbreviated XFL season with the New York Guardians. Though he didn’t make the 53-man roster, he did earn a spot on the team’s practice squad.
