The Pittsburgh Steelers have some real problems with their offense, and everyone is blaming OC Matt Canada.
Fans have been clamoring for his firing for a while now and the calls have grown even louder since Sunday’s comeback win against the Baltimore Ravens. The offense managed 15 points, with the defense coming up big and winning two more via a safety.
According to The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly, the Steelers had an opportunity to make a move that could improve their offense, with Byron Leftwich having made contact with the team only to be ignored.
“I’ve heard that Byron’s made some inquiries and the Steelers are ignoring it,” Kaboly said on The Fan Morning Show this week. “Very recent.”
Kaboly wasn’t able to say what the conversations between Leftwich and the Steelers were, though he noted that the former quarterback is keen on working with the team as an offensive consultant.

Leftwich was on the Steelers roster in 2008 as a backup to Ben Roethlisberger. He won a Super Bowl as the offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay in 2020.
Should he end up back in Pittsburgh, he would likely take on a role similar to what Brian Flores had with the defense last season. It doesn’t appear that such could be the case at the moment, however.
