Ben Roethlisberger had himself quite the career in Pittsburgh. He’ll always be a fan favorite in the Steel City after leading the team to two Super Bowl titles. But even that hasn’t changed people’s perception of Big Ben, the person.
Most still remember Roethlisberger as the quarterback who wasn’t afraid to throw his skill position guys (like Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell) under the bus. And he certainly didn’t seem like the warmest teammate to fellow quarterback Mason Rudolph.
That’s why many were so surprised to hear that the now-retired Roethlisberger had actually reached out to new Steelers quarterback Kenny PIckett, offering advice to the team’s first-round pick from the 2022 draft.
Many thought it was a bit strange that Big Ben would reach out now, not only because of his seemingly-cold relationship with Rudolph, but also because he apparently had never spoken once to Pickett before, despite the fact that their two teams had been practicing right next door to each other for the past five years.
Via Peter King:
“Pickett told me he got to know Mike Tomlin a bit from passing by him to and from the practice field, and walking in and out of the buildings. He never got the chance to talk ball with Ben Roethlisberger—which seems odd to me, to never chat with Roethlisberger in five years—but he did watch Steelers practice a lot.”

Add it all up, and Steelers fans couldn’t help but call out their former quarterback for his sudden change of heart.
