Things are not looking for Malik Willis, but they might be better in a different situation.
Malik Willis’ time with the Tennessee Titans might be nearing a rapid end. The Titans drafted Will Levis early in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and with Tannehill remaining on the roster for the time being, the former Liberty star might be the odd man out.
“Malik Willis, a third-round pick last year, is the odd man out as long as Tannehill is on the roster. Levis is going to be on the team, and the Titans don’t typically keep three quarterbacks on the 53,” Fox Sports’ Ben Arthur wrote Tuesday.
If he is released, he will likely get another shot somewhere else.
Prior to the 2022 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers were heavily connected to Willis and the team had multiple visits with the former Liberty quarterback, including a dinner meeting at his Pro Day.
The Pittsburgh Steelers decided on Kenny Pickett over Malik Willis, but now they could possibly end up with both of them.

“If Tennessee does move on from Willis, the Steelers have a decision to make. With Mitch Trubisky entering the final year of his deal, Pittsburgh is looking for a long-term backup quarterback. They added two undrafted free agents in Minnesota’s Tanner Morgan and Northwestern’s Hunter Johnson, but neither move the needle enough to hold off on another addition.”
Last offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers tragically lost Dwayne Haskins after he was killed after being struck by a truck while attempting to cross an interstate in Florida after spending the weekend training with his fellow Steelers teammates. According to the toxicology report, Haskins was under the influence of alcohol and had ketamine in his system at the time of his death.
For Willis, he just needs a team that believes in him and will work with him for longer.
Willis ended up playing in eight games, with three starts, for the Titans in 2022. He finished the season 31-of-61 for 276 yards with zero touchdowns. He was also picked off three times.
Willis was always going to be a developmental product coming out of Liberty and getting around a more comfortable environment in Pittsburgh could work out for him.
