The Miami Dolphins are expected to show interest in signing Josh Jacobs following the running back’s stellar season for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022.
Jacobs was selected by the Raiders as the 24th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft but the team declined to pick up his fifth-year option and he’s since gone on to earn another Pro Bowl on the back of 340 carries for 1,653 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. Jacobs was the league’s rushing yards leader this season, also catching 53 passes for 400 receiving yards during the term.
Jacobs is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and is thought to be likely to have the Dolphins as a suitor.
The 24-year-old was named as the supposed prime target for Miami by Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports in a piece citing one free agent every team should make a priority in the offseason.
“Jacobs was the best running back in the NFL last year, as he rushed for 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns. Spotrac believe he’s set to sign a monster four-year, $51.4M extension that carries an AAV of $12.8M to make him the third highest-paid running back in the NFL. My personal guess would be lower than that. The Dolphins don’t have a great cap situation, but keep an eye on what Miami does at running back. Jeff Wilson, Mostert, Ahmed and Gaskin are all free agents.”

While Tua Tagovailoa had his best season in a Dolphins uniform, taking advantage of having a target like Tyreek Hill, the team’s running game was not great. Their entire backfield will be free agents this season and they will probably look to bring at least two back for 2023.
If Miami can add a player like Jacobs to an offense already boasting some of the best receivers in the league, plus the Tua they drafted from Alabama, they could boast a frightening squad next season.
