New York sports radio host and Fox Sports personality Craig Carton went viral this week when he suggested the San Francisco 49ers could pursue Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers if the New York Jets don’t soon land the future Hall of Famer.
Carton has a history of breaking NFL and Jets-related news, however, his co-worker thinks he is being used by the Green Bay Packers. Evan Roberts believes Craig Carton is simply a pawn in the Packers’ game.
Roberts said that his WFAN co-host is “just being used” by Packers brass as a scare tactic against New York.
“The Green Bay Packers needed to find a lemon. They needed to find somebody that could put the message out there to scare [Jets general manager] Joe Douglas, to try to get it over the finish line. You happen to be that lemon,” Roberts said.
“… But right now, this is all an attempt — and I give the Packers credit, it’s creative — all an attempt to scare the Jets. … Craig, you’re doing nothing wrong, you’re just being used.”
Rodgers made it known last month he intends to play for the Jets, and it’s widely assumed Gang Green and Green Bay will eventually work out a trade even if it takes until during the NFL Draft later this month to finalize that deal.
However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last month, the Packers and Jets talks have “stalled” and there is a “standoff” about the state of negotiations. Trade compensation is at the heart of the matter. The Jets don’t want to give up their first-round pick, No. 13 overall. The Packers want that pick “and that’s not all,” Schefter said at the time.

However, they allegedly walked back on that demand.
By trading Rodgers, not only would the Packers be able to turn the page to Jordan Love but they’d be able to hit the financial reset without Rodgers’ $40.7 million cap charge on the 2024 ledger.
In the meantime, the New York Jets signed a former Green Bay Packers quarterback Thursday, just not the one everyone’s been expecting. The organization is bringing in Tim Boyle, who played last season with the Chicago Bears, on a one-year deal.
Boyle now joins a quarterback room that includes former No. 2 pick Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler.
Wilson is expected to be the primary backup if the team is able to acquire Rodgers.
