There are quite a few people out there who reckon Aaron Rodgers isn’t being straight-up about his Achilles injury.
The New York Jets quarterback hasn’t played in 2023, save a few minutes having ruptured the tendon on his debut. However, he is planning to return before the end of the season in what would be an unprecedented move given the severity of a torn Achilles. No one has ever returned from such an injury during the same season in any sport, and Rodgers is looking to be the first.
It’s why there are many who doubt that he tore his Achilles in the first place.
IndyStar’s Gregg Doyel is one of them and has called the QB out this week, also branding him a liar.
“I don’t believe for a second he suffered a torn Achilles, at least not as we know what a torn Achilles is,” Doyel wrote. “Whatever Kevin Durant, Kobe and Brandon Graham suffered, he did not. Because this procedure would be trumpeted as a breakthrough, not treated as a secret. Plus he’s a liar.”
Rodgers had previously addressed his doubters, claiming he’s trying to do something no one else has done as he knows his window is closing.

“All those big brains out there, let me just shoot you straight. There’s not a lot of people that have the unique situation I was in,” he said during an episode of the Pat McAfee Show.
“I got hurt the first drive of the season, I don’t want to retire, I want to come back … My mindset from the morning after the injury was I’m going to try and do something nobody has done before.”
The way the Jets have been playing, it might not make sense for Rodgers to risk a comeback this season anyway.
