Lost in all the drama of Sunday night’s overtime thriller between the Chargers and Raiders was the other thrilling win-and-you’re-in battle involving the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams.
The Niners had one simple task on Sunday: Beat the rival Rams and earn a spot in the postseason. But it wasn’t going to be easy, as Los Angeles were in need of a win as well, in order to clinch the NFC West title — although they would end up winning the division anyway, after the Cards fell to the Seahawks.
Things were looking quite grim for San Fran early on. They were trailing 17-0 at one point and they entered halftime down 17-3. We should remind you that, entering the game, Sean McVay hadn’t lost a game after leading at the half. He was a perfect 45-0 when leading at the break…
Make that 45-1.
The Niners pulled off the epic comeback, winning the game in overtime by a score of 27-24, and booking a trip to the postseason in the process. It was a wildly exciting victory for San Francisco — so much so that one fan decided to set the comeback to some Mortal Kombat sound effects.
And if I may say, the results are pretty awesome. Check it out for yourself:
