In his preseason debut, Caleb Williams completed four of seven pass attempts for 97 yards, along with the 13-yard scramble. As expected, head coach Matt Eberflus limited the snaps of Williams and other key starters in the preseason opener.
The Bears used the first overall pick on 2024 on Williams, having obtained the selection via the Carolina Panthers in their move-up for Bryce Young a year ago. Williams and the Bears begin their 2024 campaign with a home tilt against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 8.
Caleb Williams Is In Position To Succeed Right Away
While there are usually growing pains for first-year quarterbacks, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner is actually in a good spot to dominate right off the bat.
Williams gets to throw to superstar veterans DJ Moore and Keenan Allen as well as prized rookie Rome Odunze. Tight end Cole Kmet has proven to be a serviceable security blanket in Chicago’s passing game as well, not to mention Chicago has two capable 1,000-yard rushers in D’Andre Swift and Khalil Herbert.
