Somebody really wanted this fake story to go viral and they succeeded.
If you become insanely famous, especially in the world of sports, you’re probably going to have to deal with some odd rumors here and there. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was the subject one such whisper, which turned out to be less than substantive.
The rumor came via former NFL offensive lineman Rich Ohrnberger, who tweeted one rumor about the relationship between Tom Brady and Bruce Arians, then threw in another report about Mahomes. Ohnberger said he was told Mahomes sat down with his brother, Jackson Mahomes, and fiancée, Brittany Matthews, and asked them not to attend any Chiefs games next season.
Ohrnberger would later delete it and issue an apology for spreading the false information.
Via Chron.com:
“I can’t substantiate the information that I tweeted out earlier today regarding Patrick Mahomes and his family,” “The source I received this information from was posing as someone I trust. I will delete this tweet later today along with the original thread. Please pass this along.”
Whomever that source was texted multiple reporters that information in an effort for it to get out.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk had this to say:
“While it’s unclear whether Ohrnberger was the victim of a prank or whatever, someone recently texted that a similar scoop to my son, apparently believing they were texting me. (As the anonymous tip went, Mahomes had told them they won’t be allowed on the field next season, not that they are banned from games.) We ignored it. Given that Ohrnberger reported nearly the exact thing that someone was pushing to me, it seems that someone was trying to spread a false narrative about Mahomes. And that they finally succeeded in getting someone to bite.”
Just last season, the younger Mahomes found himself apologizing for pouring water on Baltimore Ravens fans and dancing on the number of the late Sean Taylor.
Matthews is no stranger to seeing an online backlash, most recently when she sprayed champagne on fans after the Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round.
The good news is Mahomes seems to at least be enjoying the show.
