Some folks on social media believe they already know the Dallas Cowboys’ 2023-24 postseason stat after an interesting statistic was brought to light.
The Cowboys defeated the Washington Commanders on Sunday to clinch a third straight season of 12-plus victories. The NFL on CBS X/Twitter account posted the following stat which noted that the Cowboys’ last two seasons ended with 12-5 regular season records…and with postseason losses to the San Francisco 49ers:

The Cowboys won the NFC East division title in 2021 with a 12-5 record. The 49ers, who needed a Week 18 victory to clinch the NFC’s final playoff spot, went on to upset the Cowboys 23-17 at AT&T Stadium.
San Fran would upset the top-seeded Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round a week later, but they eventually fell to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game.
One year later, the two NFC heavyweights met in the Divisional Round at Levi’s Stadium. Brock Purdy’s 49ers narrowly outlasted Dallas 19-12 in a low-scoring affair to reach their second consecutive NFC title game (a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles).
San Francisco finished as the NFC’s No. 1 seed with a 12-5 record, so they’ll get the conference’s lone first-round bye. Dallas will host the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round on Sunday.
