The New England Patriots made a statement last night, running for 222 yards while throwing the ball just three times during a 14-10 victory over the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills.
Bill Belichick’s game plan on offense from the start was to run the ball, run it some more, and run it some more after that. He and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels had little interest in calling a run play all game long, and the result was a lopsided 46 rush attempts to just three pass attempts by quarterback Mac Jones.
It was a performance very reminiscent of what college football fans are used to seeing from the Navy Midshipmen, which had everyone on Twitter thinking, “Was Bill Belichick trying to tip us off to the Patriots’ game plan during his pregame interview?”
During that interview for ESPN’s Monday Night Football pregame show, the Pats’ head coach was seen wearing a Navy face mask.
And then we went out and ran the ball 46 times in a game. Heck, he even alluded to how this set up much like a Navy vs. Citadel game” during his post-game presser.

After the Pats win, many on Twitter were quick to put two and two together. In hindsight, it’s quite obvious that Belichick was trying to tell us something with his choice of face mask.
