Prior to Tom Brady’s retirement, there were reports that the quarterback’s relationship with Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians had soured towards the end of the 2021 season.
Then, shortly after Brady’s comeback announcement, there was that report from the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin claiming that Brady had planned to join the Miami Dolphins’ organization, but opted not to following the Brian Flores lawsuit. In that report, however, there was one interesting tidbit from Volin that seems all the more interesting after last night’s announcement from Arians.
During his interview, Volin suggested the possibility that Brady attended a Manchester United game with the Glazer family (who own both teams) and asked that something be done about Arians. That encounter took place just one day before Brady’s comeback was made official.

“He goes over across the pond over the weekend, to the Man United game, sits in the box with the Glazer family, who owns both those teams,” Volin said. “What I don’t know is, did Brady try to do a power play and the Glazers said no? Here’s what I think happened: the Glazers are very much indebted to Brady. I think Brady went to the Glazers and said, ‘Look, I’ll come back, but we have to fix something with Bruce Arians. You have to talk to the coach.’
“So I think he went directly to the owner, told him what his issues are, and the owner said, ‘You know what, we’ll figure it out.’ And then the next day, after going to that Man U game, Brady announces he’s coming back.”
At the time, not much was made of Volin’s assumption that Brady asked the Glazers to do something about Arians. Fast forward to last night, though, and it suddenly has many thinking that maybe this was part of the plan all along — that Brady worked a deal where he would only come back if Arians was no longer the coach.
And, not wanting to just get rid of the coach that brought the team their last Super Bowl, the Buccaneers decided to give Bruce a comfy front office job instead — where he could still play an important part in the team’s success, while giving Brady the space he requires.

Does it seem a little too far-fetched? Maybe, but that didn’t stop Twitter from assuming something was awry.
