Last month, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins had soical media buzzing when he said he might retire in response to the NFL’s new COVID-19 rules for teams.
“Never thought I would say this, but being put in a position to hurt my team because I don’t want to partake in the vaccine is making me question my future in the NFL.”
The NFL issued a memo saying that teams could be forced to forfeit games if they have a COVID-19 outbreak involving unvaccinated players. In addition, players from both teams wouldn’t receive game checks, the offending team would be responsible for covering lost revenue from the game and subject to additional discipline from the commissioner.
Buffalo Bills receiver Cole Beasley does not plan to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and insisted he will not follow rules jointly adopted by the NFL and NFLPA requiring unvaccinated players to stay clear of people.
“I will be outside doing what I do,” he tweeted. “I’ll be out in public. If your (sic) scared of me then steer clear, or get vaccinated … I may die of covid, but I’d rather die actually living.
“I’m not going to take meds for a leg that isn’t broken. I’d rather take my chances with Covid and build up my immunity that way …I’ll play for free this year to live life how I’ve lived it from day one. If I’m forced into retirement, so be it.”
On Twitter, a post went insanely viral that alluded to even more players threatening to quit the league if they are forced to get the shot.
