There’s a rumor going around that the Chicago Bears are close to trading the first overall pick, and it has sent social media into quite the frenzy.
Wesley Steinberg, who claims to be an NFL and New York Giants insider, stated on X/Twitter this morning that the Bears plan to trade the first overall pick. Steinberg claims that the Bears are set to receive a “generational haul” of draft choices in return:
Keep in mind this is merely a rumor. It has not been reported by a more well-known insider like ESPN’s Adam Schefter, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport or Tom Pelissero. Nonetheless, social media had plenty of interesting responses to Steinberg’s tweet:

The Bears haven’t yet indicated what they’ll do with the No. 1 pick, but it’s widely assumed that they’ll end up taking USC’s Caleb Williams with the selection.
If that’s what Chicago is planning to do, they’ll surely trade quarterback Justin Fields well ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. This year’s free agent QB market isn’t strong outside of Kirk Cousins, Baker Mayfield and Russell Wilson, so there should be plenty of interest in Fields on the trade market.
Williams won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 after throwing for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns against only five interceptions to go along with 10 rushing scores. In his final year at USC, Williams threw for 3,633 yards and 30 touchdowns with 11 rushing touchdowns.
