NFL fans are teeing off on USA Today after their season predictions and pick for Super Bowl 59 resurfaced.
Like most media outlets, USA Today offers its predictions for the NFL before the start of each season. This year, they projected the New York Jets to finish 12-5 and defeat the Green Bay Packers (Aaron Rodgers’ old team) in Super Bowl 59.
On Monday afternoon, Zack Kelberman brought back USA Today’s projections for the 2024 season. Nobody hits their pre-season predictions perfectly, but the Jets’ Super Bowl pick certainly didn’t age well:

To be fair to USA Today, the Jets were widely regarded as a Super Bowl 59 contender coming into this season. They finished 7-10 despite horrendous quarterback play, so it was fair to believe that the return of four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers would be enough to help them return to the postseason.
Regarding other predictions that turned out to be dead wrong, it wasn’t realistic to think the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers would be below .500 in December, or that the Jacksonville Jaguars would sink near the AFC basement.

The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and NFC-leading Detroit Lions are the consensus favorites to win it all. But the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers will all have something to say about that as well.
