With the 2022 NFL season starting up later this week, many teams will be releasing their official depth charts. The Steelers did so on Monday and to no one’s surprise, Mitchell Trubisky was named as the starter and QB1.
What was a bit shocking for those who saw the depth chart, was not that Trubisky was at the top, it was the fact that Kenny Pickett, the Steelers first round draft pick, was listed as the number three behind Mason Rudolph.
This took a lot of people by surprise as Pickett had performed very well in the pre-season, completing 29 of 36 attempts for 261 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. It did not take long for people to take notice and react on Twitter:
Pickett’s stint as the third string quarterback only lasted about twenty-four hours, as the Steelers released an updated version of their depth chart, which now correctly has him listed as the primary backup to Trubisky.

Considering the fact that the Steelers spent a first round pick on Pickett, it is only a matter of time before he becomes the starter. The big question in Pittsburgh right now is, how long can Mitch Trubisky hold him off for that starting role?
The Steelers open their season on Sunday with a tough test against division rival and the reigning AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals.
