On Thursday, the NFL announced that Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams would get a two-game suspension without pay for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy.
Williams quickly responded, apologizing to his teammates, coaches, and the organization. He also announced that he would not try to appeal the suspension but would rather accept it.
Usually, when a player fails a PED test, the immediate thought is that it is because of steroids. However, the internet has a much different and bizarre theory.
There’s a rumor going around that Williams tested positive for Viagra, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly where this rumor started, but it has grown like wildfire on social media and has even made some funny comments.

Of course, Williams claims that whatever he took to get him suspended gave him no competitive advantage.
“I don’t take supplements or vitamins, and I am overly cautious about even taking over-the-counter medicine,” Williams said in his statement. “At no time have I ever taken something in an attempt to cheat or look for an unfair advantage. I understand that I am responsible for everything that goes into my body and I have to take accountability in this instance.”

Though the claims on social media of his Viagra use seem completely unbelievable, crazier things have happened.
It’s also worth mentioning former NFL WR Chad Johnson did admit to using Viagra before games get an “increase in blood flow.”
Jameson Williams Was Having A Breakout Season
In his third year in the NFL, Williams already had career highs in yards and touchdowns through just six games with the Lions in 2024.
This small suspension could become a hiccup in a season where Williams tries to show everyone why the Lions spent a first-round pick on him in 2022.
