This year’s Super Bowl Halftime show was one of the most polarizing since perhaps the Justin Timberlake-Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction.”
Featuring some of the biggest names in hip hop, like Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige, those who grew up during the height of the 90s rap movement were hit with a heavy dose of nostalgia, while others felt it was perhaps too risqué for prime time.
Whatever the case may be, there was one man who didn’t care what everyone thought, including the NFL. He was going to have it his way, or no way.
According to Snoop Dogg, who recently sat down to answer some questions with Tidal, rapper Jay-Z threatened to end his partnership with the NFL if they didn’t allow the performers to do their thing on the stage at SoFi Stadium on February 13.
Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is currently in a partnership with the National Football League as their “entertainment and social justice partner.” Apparently, he put that all on the line for his rap friends, and Snoop was incredibly appreciative for that.

It is what it is, so it’s like for him to go to bat for us and tell the NFL, “F*ck that. They perform or I quit,” that was the most gangster shit out of everything. Then with attire and kneeling and all this … you can’t wear your gangbang shit? JAY-Z hit me like, “Wear what the f*ck you want to wear. Peace to the Gods.”

In the end, it appears as though Jay-Z won out, as his friends were able to do their thing on the stage and give us one of the most talked-about Super Bowl Halftime performances in recent memory.
