Some worrying new details pertaining to Deshaun Watson’s season-ending surgery have surfaced in the wake of the major injury announcement.
The quarterback fired his team to a 33-31 win over the Ravens on Sunday, despite suffering two injuries in the first half. But he complained of shoulder discomfort after the game and MRIs have since revealed a left ankle high sprain and a fractured shoulder.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo is reporting that the shoulder injury that has ruled Watson out of the remainder of 2023 is a completely new one and is unrelated to the issue that kept him out previously.
Tom Pelissero, also of NFL Network, disclosed that the QB wanted to play through the injuries and rely on injections, seeking several opinions from medical professionals. It’s said that he was told that his shoulder could fall apart if he got hit in the same spot again.

Watson’s season is over after six appearances for Cleveland. He threw for 1,115 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions in those six games, completing 61.4 percent of his attempts.
The Browns are now left to rue their investment as Watson hasn’t been able to give the team a full season since signing a $230 million contract in 2022. It is expected that he will be ready to play by the start of the 2024 campaign.
