Frank Reich is out of a job following the Carolina Panthers’ 10th loss of the season.
The head coach was fired on Monday morning, with owner David Tepper announcing as much on the back of a loss to the Tennessee Titans that left him swearing on his way out of the locker room on Sunday.
“I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed him that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers,” Tepper wrote in a statement. “I want to thank Frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well.”
Reich, who was fired by the Indianapolis Colts last year, is now the first NFL head coach to be terminated in consecutive seasons since the 1970 merger.
It’s since been reported that players found out about the sacking via social media and weren’t told by the team. That is according to beat reporter Mike Kaye, who claims he was informed of such by several members of the roster.
Kaye did note later on that the team planned to tell the players collectively before the news became public. That obviously did not go according to plan.

“A league source told me that the #Panthers organization was trying to be respectful of Reich and the players and the plan was to tell players collectively first before it was shared publicly,” he wrote. “Clearly, the news broke before that.”
Meanwhile, special teams coach Chris Tabor will serve as an interim coach, with offensive coordinator Thomas Brown to call plays with help from senior assistant Jim Caldwell.
