On Tuesday, the New Orleans Saints shocked the football world by releasing veteran running back Latavius Murray. The Saints on Monday asked Murray to take a reduction in pay, and he refused, so he was cut from the roster.
That really bothered Shannon Sharpe as he took to Twitter and blasted the Saints.
“Saints could’ve asked Latavius Murray to take a pay cut in March. Probably expected he wouldn’t, but would’ve had options in FA. They ask him to take a pay cut 5 days b4 season starts. Thinking his bck is against the wall and would say yes. He says no and gets released. #DIRTY”
The 31-year-old Murray was due to make $3.15 million in salary and bonuses this season. Murray signed a four-year, $14.4 million contract in 2019. Murray tallied 1,293 rushing yards, 411 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns over those two seasons.
When Kamara missed two games with injuries in 2019, Murray stepped up and gained at least 150 yards from scrimmage with two touchdowns in each game.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Murray has 4,991 rushing yards, 1,294 receiving yards and 45 touchdowns in his seven-year career.
