Shannon Sharpe has been linked with a move to ESPN since it became clear that he would be leaving FS1. But rumors of a possible deal with The Worldwide Leader in Sports have intensified on the back of Friday’s layoffs.
ESPN let go of some pretty big names fans would have previously thought untouchable. But, given Disney’s mandate to cut costs across the board, it appears there are a precious few who are safe.
Sharpe is understood to have entertained talks with FanDuel as Pat Mcafee is set to move to ESPN. And, while the former has some money to play with as McAfee has left a deal on the table worth $30 million a year, Front Office Sports is suggesting that Uncle Shay Shay would prefer a move to ESPN as he loves the spotlight and could take up a role on Monday night Countdown.
Of course, given that he debated Skip Bayless for seven years and has become polished in the art, there’s no way Shannon would end up at ESPN and not join Stephen A. Smith’s rotating crew of opponents. That would definitely make for must-see television.
It should be noted that Sharpe did appear to know where he would end up next when he tweeted he would be back on morning television again soon, following his departure from Undisputed.
