Former NFL stars Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson were not best pleased after seeing Cam Newton get attacked at his camp over the weekend.
Newton was jumped by multiple individuals while trying to separate a fight at his 7-on-7 football tourney in Atlanta on Sunday but held his own and hardly looked bothered as he defended himself before the melee was stopped by police officers and security guards.
Sharpe and Johnson discussed the incident on their ‘Nightcap’ podcast and condemned Cam’s attackers as they lamented over the former NFL MVP taking his time to set up these camps and continuously getting disrespected.
“Y’all think that’s cute [to tell Newton he’s trash]. It’s not,” Sharpe said. “It’s really embarrassing that somebody takes time out of their day… and try to give back and you’re disrespectful, ungrateful.
“Cam is way better than me because I don’t have patience for my own kids disrespecting me. I’ll be damned if I’m going to let somebody else’s kid disrespect me.”
Ocho reckons this latest incident still won’t stop Cam.

“Knowing Cam like I do…. he’s not going to allow this to bother him,” he said.
“When you have someone like Cam Newton giving players an opportunity to display themselves at these 7-on-7 camps, you’re supposed to be taking advantage of these situations. Many times I’ve seen players, coaches and parents disrespect Cam Newton at these camps.”
Sharpe then pointed out that there have never been any reports of Eli or Peyton Manning getting disrespected at their camps, noting that such behavior only takes place in the black community.
“Peyton and Eli [Manning] have been having a camp for 20-something years,” he pointed out. “You ain’t never seen no kids being disrespectful to Peyton and Eli.”
Unc and Ocho also praised the former quarterback for his restraint given that he opted not to swing on any of his attackers.
Newton is expected to be a guest on the ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast with rappers Mase and Cam’ron this week. He’s likely to open up on what went down.
