Some tragic news from the NFL world emerged late on Saturday evening.
According to WGN-TV in Chicago, Myrtle Brown, the 73-year-old mother of former NFL safety Sergio Brown, was found dead at a creek in Maywood, Illinois. Police are now searching for Sergio, who was reported missing, after authorities were unable to get in contact with him:
“According to Maywood police, family members notified officers on Saturday that they were unable to contact Sergio Brown and his 73-year-old mother Myrtle Brown. Police initiated a missing person report and began searching for both individuals.
Officers say while they were conducting a search, they found Myrtle Brown unresponsive near a creek by her home. Myrtle Brown was later taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and a homicide investigation into her death is now underway.”
The 35-year-old Brown was a standout for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He joined the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and wound up appearing in 11 games during his rookie year, recording one fumble recovery and 11 combined tackles.
Brown saw an expanded role with the Patriots in his sophomore 2011 season, appearing in 15 games while making three starts. He had one interception, one pass defense and 37 combined tackles.
The Patriots went on to reach Super Bowl 46, where they were upset by Eli Manning and the New York Giants by a final score of 21-17.

Brown then joined the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, where he spent the next three years. During his tenure there, Brown made eight starts (45 total game appearances) and had seven pass defenses, one sack and 53 combined tackles.
He spent the 2015 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and played his final NFL season with the Buffalo Bills in 2016.
