Former NFL safety Sergio Brown is facing a judge this Wednesday on a pair of serious charges in connection with the death of his mother.
According to TMZ, Brown has been transported from San Diego to Illinois and has been charged with first-degree murder plus concealment of a dead body. The publication notes that the hearing will begin at a Maywood courthouse on Wednesday morning, several miles away from where Brown killed his 73-year-old mother.
Brown, who last played in the NFL in 2016, is also accused of having dumped her body near a creek behind her home.
The ex-player’s mugshot has since been released, and a spokesperson for the Maywood Police Department revealed he was wearing a Ben Roethlisberger jersey while he was being processed.
Brown had been in custody in Southern California since October, with Mexican authorities arresting him in Mexico after he was spotted partying just days after his mother was killed. He was extradited to the U.S. and was very difficult on the flight back, having also fought officers during his arrest.
The 35-year-old branded the reports of his mother’s death “Fake news. For tabloids.” prior to his arrest.
