The Seattle Seahawks are adding a notable and former East Carolina star signal-caller to their roster.
Per ESPN’s Brady Henderson, Holton Ahlers was signed to Seattle’s practice squad. Backup quarterback Drew Lock is on the injury report with an ankle injury, so the signing of Ahlers provides QB insurance for Pete Carroll and company.
The soon-to-be 24-year-old Ahlers put together his best season of college football last year, tossing 3,708 yards and 28 touchdowns against only five interceptions. Ahlers went on to win the Hula Bowl and Birmingham Bowl MVP awards.
Over his five-year tenure at East Carolina, Ahlers threw for 13,927 yards and 97 touchdowns against 37 interceptions to go along with 1,444 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns.
Ahlers went undrafted but signed with the Seahawks in May. He was subsequently waived, re-signed and then let go again last month.
