The Seattle Seahawks are adding another veteran quarterback to their roster.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Seahawks have signed journeyman Brett Rypien to their practice squad. Rypien was waived by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week after struggling in their Week 9 road loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Rypien started Sunday’s game in place of an injured Matthew Stafford, who was sidelined with a thumb injury. Rypien finished the day with 13 completions on 28 pass attempts for 130 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
Rypien is the nephew of former Washington quarterback Mark Rypien, who led the team to a Super Bowl 26 championship over the Buffalo Bills in the 1991 season. The elder Rypien was named Super Bowl MVP for that contest.
The 27-year-old Rypien will be a third-stringer behind starter Geno Smith and backup Drew Lock.
Smith has struggled as of late, throwing six interceptions over his last four games. Some fans have called for Pete Carroll to make a change and give Lock a chance, but Smith will indeed get the start again vs. the Washington Commanders this Sunday.

Rypien started three games for the Broncos over the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons and appeared in eight contests altogether. He completed 61.5 percent of pass attempts for 778 yards and four touchdowns against eight interceptions.
The Seahawks enter Week 10 with a 5-3 record, tied with the San Francisco 49ers for tops in the NFC West. After hosting Washington on Sunday, the Seahawks will travel south for a showdown with the Rams.
