The Seattle Seahawks are reeling right about now. They entered today’s NFC West battle with the San Francisco 49ers having lost their last three in a row, and six of their last seven. With a 3-8 record, they officially have nothing to lose at this point in their seemingly lose 2021 season.
And when you have nothing to lose, you tend be more likely to throw caution to the wind and take some extra risks — like faking a punt on 4th & 6 from your own 27-yard line just over a minuted into the game.
That’s exactly what the Seahawks did. And not only was Pete Carroll’s aggressive approach rewarded with a first down, but Travis Homer actually took the direct snap all the way for the 73-yard touchdown.
That trick play gave Seattle an early 7-0 lead, but it didn’t last long, as the Niners recovered a Seahawks fumble and capitalized with a George Kittle touchdown just a few drives later.
