The Seattle Seahawks appear to have made their decision on the quarterback position for next season on the back of their return to the playoffs.
Of course, they’re aware they have Geno Smith to thank for that, which is why they’re planning to keep him.
Seahawks GM John Schneider relayed as much to 93.3 KJR’s Ian Furness this week, per Mike Dugar of The Athletic. Asked if he expects Geno to be back, Schneider replied, “yeah, we do.” He also revealed the team’s intention to keep Drew Lock, whom Smith ousted for the starting position.
Schneider told the radio host he had a positive exit interview with Smith and wants to get the re-signing process started quickly as the player knows the Seahawks want him back, while he is keen on returning himself.
Smith, 32, led the NFL in pass completion this season with 69.8 percent of his throws finding the target for 30 touchdowns, 4,282 yards, and 11 interceptions. He ended the season at No.5 in quarterback rating and is a finalist for the AP’s Comeback Player of the Year award.
