It’s been a long offseason for fans of teams across the NFL, and the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers are giving their fan bases something to talk about following a trade.
Thursday has been a busy day as the sports world deals with its third NFL trade.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Seattle Seahawks had dealt cornerback Michael Jackson to the Carolina Panthers in return for linebacker Michael Barrett.
Michael Barrett was a key player in Michigan’s three-year run of excellence from 2021 through 2023. He was a regular contributor at linebacker and a star on special teams, and the team won 40 of 43 games.
Barrett’s 65 tackles and three sacks during Michigan’s 15-0 season in 2023 got him drafted in the seventh round with pick No. 240 by the Carolina Panthers.
He will now go from the Seattle Seahawks to a team that will reunite him with Mike MacDonald, who was Michigan’s defensive coordinator.

Jackson was a valuable part of the Seahawks since joining the team in 2021, but the team basically pushed him out of one of their stronger positions since it is already filled with four rookies and a cornerback group that already included Pro-Bowlers Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon.
Jackson was never drafted, as he signed a deal with the Seattle Seahawks in 2021. His breakout year came during the 2022 season when he started all 17 games at left cornerback while recording 75 tackles, 12 passes defended, and an interception, per ESPN.
He also added a touchdown scored, returning a blocked field goal.
