Sean Payton’s name has been dominating football rumors this week, with the former New Orleans Saints head coach the subject of comeback speculation ahead of the end of the NFL’s regular season.
A number of teams are already making offseason preparations given their bleak prospects for this year and, as far as available coaches go, Payton seems to be the man everyone tips to become the mammoth hire heading into 2022/23.
Reports on a potential return got fans talking, especially after the Denver Broncos fired Nathaniel Hackett on Monday. However, Payton has liked a tweet from an Indianapolis Colts fan in which they ask him to come to coach the team.
Pat McAfee has made much ado simply based on that like. And who could blame him? It could be an indication of where the legendary HC wants to work should he come out of retirement. It’s left to time to tell.
The Colts, as well as the Broncos, have coaching vacancies that need filling so it will be an interesting race. Sean has expressed a desire to return to the NFL but stability would have to be the main seller for him, as he has indicated.
