The New Orleans Saints lost the Game of the Year this past Sunday by only two points, but it felt like so much more when the team put up 46 points and still couldn’t come out with a victory.
New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton had a hard time getting over that loss to the 49ers and he apparently took his anger out on a local butcher who dared to question the Saints’ strategy during the game.
According to Katherine Terrell of The Athletic, the exchange came about when the butcher asked Payton about a 2-point conversion, to which Payton fired back by telling the guy to basically to mind his own business.
“I’ve got the guy at Rouses, or at freaking Whole Foods, asking me about the freaking two-point play. I looked at him, the guy from the meat section. I said. ‘Hey, your steaks don’t look too good right now, worry about your freaking meat.’ Driving me crazy.”
Payton had gone for a 2-point conversion in the 1st quarter, and then tried again in the 4th quarter to extend the Saints’ lead to 3 points. The team failed on both attempts. Those two points were the difference in the game if they had just kicked the field goal.
The Saints are now in the 3 seed, and need help from the Green Bay Packers to move up a spot.
