If Sean Payton teams up with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, it might not actually come on the football pitch.
Payton is widely expected to return to NFL coaching for 2023. In fact, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that the Denver Broncos received permission from the New Orleans Saints to interview the future Hall of Famer.
The 45-year-old Brady is a free agent after the 2022 season. As such, the possibility of Brady and Payton teaming up has been widely rumored throughout the football world.
But during an interview with Peter Schrager of NFL Network and FOX Sports, Payton indicated that a possible partnership with Brady would not be with an NFL team. Rather, it would be at the FOX network.
“I think there’s too many variables in that equation,” Payton said. “If we work together, Schrags, I’m going to predict…there’s a good chance if we work together, it’ll be with FOX.”

Payton currently works for FOX, but it looks like that gig will end soon as he seemingly awaits a return to the NFL coaching life. The Broncos and Indianapolis Colts currently have job openings, so those are two teams to follow in the potential Payton sweepstakes.
Brady has a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX that will commence after his playing career. He will work on the network’s top NFL broadcast team alongside reporter Erin Andrews and play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt.
