Sean Payton will be making a return to the NFL sidelines this year after all.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos have struck a deal with the New Orleans Saints that will see the legendary head coach join Mile High City.
Payton was head coach of the Saints from 2006 to 2021 (he was suspended the entire 2012 season for his involvement in the Bountygate scandal). The future Hall of Famer led the Saints to a Super Bowl 44 championship, three NFC title game appearances, seven NFC South division titles and two wild card berths.
The Broncos’ head coaching position opened up following the firing of Nathaniel Hackett, who was let go after a Christmas day loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Jerry Rosburg finished out the season as interim head coach.
More to come.
