Las Vegas Raiders star running back Josh Jacobs picked the perfect year for a career season.
The Raiders surprised many when they decided not to pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. The Alabama product went on to have a career year, rushing for a league-leading 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Whether it’s a new deal from the Raiders or a different team in free agency, Jacobs promises to land a hefty payday following his career year.
Jacobs and new Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton made an appearance on FanDuel’s “Up & Adams” show with Kay Adams. During the segment, Payton teased the idea of the Broncos signing Jacobs in free agency (at 1:06 mark).
The New Orleans Saints always had quality running backs during Payton’s tenure as head coach (2006 to 2021), including Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. Indeed, the future Hall of Famer knows a quality running back when he sees one, and Jacobs has been one for four years now.
As fun as it would be to see Jacobs in a Payton-coached offense, it’s hard to envision GM George Paton breaking the bank for the Raiders’ star running back. Denver already has a rising star at running back in Javonte Williams, for starters.

On top of that, Paton would be better off using the cap space to upgrade an o-line that surrendered 55 sacks on Wilson. It also wouldn’t help to add extra receiving help and more playmakers in the front seven with Von Miller and Bradley Chubb long gone.
