Sean Payton appears to be losing patience with quarterback Russell Wilson following a very poor performance from his quarterback against the Chiefs.
The Broncos are 1-5 this season despite their defense putting in a respectable shift that should have seen them beat Kansas City on Thursday Night Football this week.
The offense, however, could not get it done on their end, with Wilson throwing for just 95 yards on 13-of-22 passing, also throwing two interceptions. The game marked the first of Wilson’s 12-year career in which he threw for fewer than 150 yards with two INTs. He was also sacked four times and had four passes batted down at the line of scrimmage on the night.
“Offensively we struggled throwing the ball, our third-down numbers were poor,” Payton told reporters after the 19-8 loss.
“We had a game where we certainly played well enough defensively, but offensively … from a third-down perspective keeping drives going we struggled until late in the game … To win in our league, you’ve got to be better throwing the ball. I don’t think the wind was that big of a factor.”
It would appear that Payton has thrown his quarterback under the bus here (once again).

Wilson, though, has taken responsibility.
“We had a chance, we’ve got to play better, cleaner,” he said. “I’ve got to play better. That starts with me.”
The QB looked to be comfortable in Payton’s offense after throwing for over 300 yards in the first three games of the season. He’s definitely struggling now.
“They [the Chiefs’ defense] did a lot of different things,” he added. “The first [interception] was on me, they made a great play on the ball that bounced up on [the second interception] … that’s part of the game … They made good plays tonight, they’re a good defense.”
Payton will be left to rue his team’s failure to capitalize on a rare opportunity, with his defense holding the Super Bowl champions to a single touchdown on a night during which his quarterback just couldn’t get it going.
