It appears that Sean Payton dropped a major hint he was going to take over as the head coach of the Denver Broncos during FOX’s Sunday pregame show.
Payton has since been announced as the Broncos’ new head coach, their third in as many years. He is expected to become one of the highest-paid HCs when he signs a five-year deal reportedly worth a figure between $17-20 million per season.
The former New Orleans Saints coach seemed to foretell his appointment during the weekend, wearing Broncos colors while on TV.
Coincidence or nah? Well, he wore something similar in 2010. The tie might have even been the same.
Payton is back in the NFL, the Broncos now have a top-tier head coach, and Russell Wilson has been partnered with the man he wanted to “fix” him following his dreadful first season in Denver. But the Broncos might be doing themselves more harm than good with this latest hire due to what they had to give up in exchange.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, they’ve relinquished claims to their 2023 first-round draft pick, as well as their second-round pick for 2024, in exchange for Payton and the Saint’s third-round pick for 2024.
That’s quite a lot to part ways with in order to sign a head coach but it was always going to take something significant as the Saints had retained rights to Payton. Should he lead Denver to a Super Bowl win during the next five years, it will be considered a necessary sacrifice. Anything less will amount to failure.
