Current ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III had a lot to say regarding Sean Payton’s treatment of Russell Wilson.
In a stunner, the Broncos announced on Wednesday that Wilson will be benched in favor of backup Jarrett Stidham for their final two games. It’s believed that Denver is doing this as a way to avoid having to pay Wilson $37 million in guaranteed money for 2025, which he will receive only if he suffers an injury.
The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner ripped Payton for his treatment of Wilson on X/Twitter and his “RG3 and The Ones” podcast, stating that the 60-year-old coach has done Wilson “dirty” and accusing him of refusing to show the nine-time Pro Bowler “the respect he has earned”:
Griffin also said that Wilson’s “biggest opposition” in 2023 was none other than coach Payton:
The Broncos’ decision to sit Wilson is confusing to many for one clear reason: He’s been playing well this year, and they still have an outside shot at making the postseason. The decision to sit the nine-time Pro Bowler for Wilson is simply a confirmation that they’re punting on 2023 and focusing on the future.
