Los Angeles Rams’ head coach Sean McVay will become a father at any moment now, and thus there’s a chance he’s not on the sidelines for Sunday’s Week 6 home game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaking to reporters on Friday (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk), McVay announced that his wife, Veronika, is due any day now. McVay added that if their son arrives on Sunday, he will not be on the sidelines this week.
“Really feel fortunate that it’s been a smooth pregnancy, my wife has been incredible and, so, it hasn’t quite hit me yet,” McVay said. “He’s active right now, it seems like he’s ready to come at any moment. What a blessing that will be.”
As Alper noted, McVay did not announce who would act as the head coach if he’s absent. But third-year defensive coordinator Raheem Morris feels like a safe bet, given his precious head coaching experience with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons.
Despite a grueling schedule and no Cooper Kupp for the first four games of 2023, the Rams are 2-3 and certainly look like playoff contenders. All of their losses (against the powerhouse 49ers, Bengals and Eagles) were decided by nine points or less, after all.
With Kupp back in the fold and lining up alongside rookie sensation Puka Nacua, there’s no telling how prolific the LA offense will be from here on out. They’re just one game out of a wild card spot in the NFC, and the schedule eases down tremendously after their Week 8 road game against the Dallas Cowboys.

After hosting the Cardinals, the Rams will stay home to prepare for a Week 7 tilt against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
