Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has asked for privacy following the team’s decision to place rookie Stetson Bennett on the non-football injury list.
Bennett, who was absent when the Rams played the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 due to a minor shoulder injury, will miss at least four more games given the latest development. The former Georgia Bulldogs star won the job as the backup to starting QB Matthew Stafford during preseason but the team has since promoted veteran Brett Rypien from the practice squad as a replacement.
The Rams have refused to divulge the reason for placing Bennet on the NFI list, with McVay stating it’s “bigger than football” as he confirmed that the move has nothing to do with the shoulder injury.
“Out of respect for him and the situation, I’m going to leave all the specifics and particulars in-house,” the HC told reporters during a press conference this week.
“I want to be able to do that out of respect for that situation, so I’m not going to really have any follow-up information or anything that I’ll give in that regard.”
McVay appealed to reporters to respect his decision with regards to keeping the matter private.

“I really hope that you can please respect my wishes in regards to keeping that in-house,” he added. “I understand you have a job to do, but there are certain things that I think are a little bigger and a little more important. And out of respect for the particulars and the specifics, we want to keep it in-house, and that’s where I want to leave it, please.”
