When playing a physical sport like football, not many players are willing to leave money on the table because you likely never know when your career might end due to injury or if you will ever get a big pay day again.
Sean Lee did not care about any of that, which is why he approached the Dallas Cowboys about restructuring his contract for the good of the team, as told by Cowboys COO Stephen Jones.
“Sean came to us. He wanted to play. We didn’t even ask. He just said, ‘Look, I want to adjust. I’ve missed a lot. I know you’ve got these two young guys that are going to need to be on the field. I think I can help.'”
Back in March, it was reported that Lee and the Cowboys agreed to cut his contract in half from $7 million to $3.5 million. Lee is eligible to earn back the other $3.5 million in incentives.
Lee also has a reduced role on the team, but he came up big on Monday Night Football against the Giants, where he tallied a team-high 12 tackles.

You definitely won’t find many athletes like Lee who will be willing to sacrifice money and playing time for the greater good of the franchise.
